Well, as far as I can tell mine is a plain 7011-250 and it has a built-in GXT150 attached to some special graphics bus. I also had an GXT150M (MCA) around, so I could try whether they differ regarding the refresh rate setting... >From the US Sales Manual I just grabbed this: (http://www.ibmlink.ibm.com/ussman Model/No.=7011-250) (#2766) GXT100 Graphics Adapter The GXT100 graphics adapter is an entry-level adapter for 1024 x 768 resolution graphics. (#2767) GXT150 Graphics Adapter The GXT150 graphics adapter has added VRAM over its entry-level counterpart (#2766) and provides 1280 x 1024, 1152 x 900, 1024 x 768 resolution support, multiple color palettes and hardware window support. So if you can have more than 1024x768 you have an GXT150. The M obviously is the MCA model as well as other adapters have P for PCI. Finally there even is a GXT150L with some special bus used in the 7006-41T/W and -42T/W... Something interesting I found there too: "(#4227) Sun Compatible Display Converter Cable" and then there's even a list of "Cables Required for Use with Other Displays" ...so I really think these are more than just cables with different connectors, but also with some encoding to specify the supported graphics modes.
