The picture on the Web page was taken from an IBM press release. (I don't normally like to use pictures I didn't take myself, but I'm pretty certain that using a photo that IBM provided in a press release for the purpose of publishing articles about the product advertised in the press release falls under "fair use". As a graphic designer, I'm sensitive to copyright issues, but I believe that I'm in the clear here.) I've never actually attached a monitor to my Model 250. I recently ran across a client who had been using a Sun monitor with an adapter on one of his home PCs. When I expressed interest in it, he said that he'd sell me the monitor for $25, but the adapter cable cost him $75 so he wouldn't let that go. Fine with me! I just have to lug it across town one of these days. So I may plug that monitor in as a novelty the next time I do an upgrade that requires me to power down the system (which will be a sad day--I'm rather proud of my 161 days of uptime), so I can see what it looks like, but now I do everything on the machine (including writing this email) by ssh or through s1. > I'm interested in this since I may set the > switches on the GXT150 to what I want, it's always running > at 60Hz refresh rate though the monitor supports more. > So I'm thinking of that it could be due to some coding of > the video connector's pins... Well, I have something here in the Common Diagnostics and Service Guide about the GXT150, but be warned that this is the GXT150 MCA card and may differ from the one in the Model 250, which IIRC is not exactly the same as the add-on card. It says that there are switches on the card, and has a set of switch settings for different monitors, which are almost all IBM models. The last listing is "other displays." It lists "Screen resolution (non-interlaced) as 1280 x 1024 at the following refresh frequencies and display switch settings: freq | 1 2 3 4 --------------- 60 Hz:| 0 1 1 1 74 Hz:| 0 1 1 0 (apologies for those using proportional fonts) If it were me, I'd open up the case and see if there are dip switches near that 13W3 video connector. -- Steven M.
