Are you running 5.1?
Really, the thing that bugs me is the overlap of packages that are
installed with installp and those that are installed with RPM. For
example, if I want to upgrade
Fileset Level State Description
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
perl.rte 5.5.3.0 C Perl Version 5 Runtime
Environment
to a newer level, I can get freeware.perl from bull (which won't
satisfy the dependencies for perl.rte) or go to IBM for perl 5.6.1 as
an RPM, which also won't satisfy dependencies.
...or just do what I did, which was to leave 5.5.3.0 right where it
was and compile 5.8.0 myself. It works, but I don't like having to
leave older versions on my computer.
I *have* rpm on here, but I don't use it as a last resort, even after
attempting to compile a package myself.
Now after all this griping, I'll probably find that the maintenance
releases I have not yet installed will upgrade my perl and other
things like that, and I'll feel really foolish! =^)
