Hi all, well there's not much to say about me and my 250, so I'll just start at some time before, when I got my first RS6k. I'm a student in Germany and unfortunately I have to say there are no RS6ks around at our university. It's all PCs or Suns... So my first one was a 7012-32H offered in the newspaper for some bucks. I had no idea what it is (besides that it was a RISC machine) but the guy selling it was just some kilometers away and the machine came with AIX 4.1.5 on two CDs and a 19 inch monitor, so I decided to grab it and take a look at it. Fortunately the PC-PS/2-keyboard worked and after figuring out what this LED-display was about and finding the right CD-ROM drive I got it running after a fresh install. And there I was, fascinated about AIX, how easy it's been to install it and how easy administration was using SMIT compared to most things I've seen on Linux and Solaris. The 32H is not to powerful, it has a POWER-CPU running at 25MHz and I think I was quite lucky to have 64MB of RAM in this machine. >From that point on I kept looking for AIX and RS6k stuff and as I have also seen some efforts to run Linux on a 7011-250 with a PowerPC 601 running at 66MHz I decided that I'd need such a machine too...and finally got it from eBay. It's got 64MB of RAM also and I replaced the original HDD (1GB) by a 4GB drive and that's how it's running now. I just run it as web-server for home use, to try out things. Other's (NIM/LDAP, DHCP, ...) are to come but this is a question of time. The fact that it's a really quiet machine made me think of using it as an MP3-player but then I found it being to slow. So if anybody knows some other model, quiet but powerful enough and not to large in dimensions let me know... cu, Stefan
