Hello,
Some of you may have noticed changes happening at p90.net/paroxysm.com
lately. This came about because I didn't adequately prepare for the
recent move, and I apologize for any inconvenience.
I had planned for the mailing lists to experience only very brief
downtime, and in fact I was without broadband connectivity for several
days. During that time mail sent to any of the lists may have bounced.
The good news is that the lists are running again, and have been for
well over a week. Other good news is that the server is connected to
the Internet with a fatter broadband connection. I've upgraded the
mailserver software and included options to prevent the server from
accepting spam. Since the lists are all subscriber-only there should be
no spam going directly to the lists anyhow, but the server has been
loaded down by having to accept, store, and reject spam.
Further good news is that the server, this same old IBM RS/6000 Model
250, continues to be in good working order. I'll continue to perform
upgrades in the hopes of relieving the load on the server, but of
course it is rather old and most software today, even Unix software, is
written with newer, faster processors in mind.
The bad news is that the content system on the new webserver is not yet
working. This means that the web-based archives for the mailing lists
are not currently available. I'm working on this as I can and will let
you know when the archives, and other web content, are online again.
I thank you for your patience as I get the last bits of the move ironed
out.
Steve
